The ULTRA-TURRAX Tube Drive control from IKA has been awarded the world-renowned red dot award: product design 2012 for its successful use of design.
Winners of the prestige award were announced in the North Rhine Westphalia Design Center by the 30-member expert panel after an evaluation process lasting several days. The assessment covered, inter alia, the degree of innovation, functionality, ergonomics, intuitiveness and symbolic and emotional content. A total of 4,515 entries were submitted by creative talents and manufacturers from across the globe.
In addition to the ULTRA-TURRAX Tube Drive control, three other new developments by IKA received the red dot award in 2012. These will be presented to the public at the ACHEMA trade fair in June 2012.
The award received by IKA design team underlines the emphasis placed by the company on the design and functionality of its products.
The IKA UTTD control system is a unique, patented, universal, single-use dispersion system with hermetically sealed sample vessels. The system can be used to process infectious, toxic or pungent samples safely. Defined conditions mean that the tests can be reproduced at any time. The innovative IKA tubes disperse, stir and crush the material. Cross-contamination between the individual samples is completely avoided by the single-use tubes, as are any hygiene critical procedures. With the control version, mixing and crushing can be optimized by switching on the turbo and reverse rotation functions.
A USB interface enables the tests to be controlled and documented using a PC. The sample vessels (tubes) are simply positioned on the drive, the required speed is set, the test time established and the test begun. An acoustic signal sounds at the end of the test. Pre-settings also allow serial tests to be repeated with a high degree of precision.
The design concept in brief: easy use & easy clean: simple to operate, with no cleaning costs.
The expert panel carefully examined, tested and evaluated each individual entry, applying the highest standards.
The award winners not only demonstrated exceptional design quality but also showed that design is an integral component of innovative product development.
