IKA FLOW Rate Calculator

This flow rate calculator can be used to estimate the flow rate, residence time, and working pressure of your IKA FLOW experiment. Please follow steps 1-5 below to enter the setup parameters specific to your experiment. Then enter the working pressure you wish to use or the residence time you wish to achieve to calculate the corresponding outputs.

Setup parameters

1. Solvent
Select the solvent you wish to use as transport fluid in your experiment.

2. Capillary
Select the capillary you wish to use with your experiment. The capillary is used to regulate the flow rate range. It is determined by the size of the capillary and viscosity of the solvent.
Capillary 1 (125 µm / 100 mm)
Capillary 2 (125 µm / 50 mm)
Capillary 3 (180 µm / 50 mm)
Capillary 4 (250 µm / 100 mm)

3. Mixing Chip
Select the type of mixing chip you wish to use with your experiment. The below description and ID number can be found on your mixing chip.
T-Style
PP T (20100150)
PVDF T (20102641)
Y-Style
PP Y (20102701)
PVDF Y (20102703)
Interrupted Flow
PP INT (20102702)
PVDF INT (20102704)

4. Disc Reactor
Select the type and quantity of disc reactor(s) you wish to use with your experiment. The below description and ID number can be found on your disc reactor.
Standard
PP STANDARD (20100041)
PVDF STANDARD (20102613)
Narrow
PP NARROW (20102699)
PVDF NARROW (20102700)

5. Volumes
Select your volumes (ml).
Sample Loop: volume of each sample loop used to inject reagents into the experiment.
Pre-Collect: volume of fluid you wish to collect before collecting the reagents.
Post-Collect: volume of fluid you wish to collect after collecting the reagents.

EXPECTED PERFORMANCE
Enter Working Pressure or Residence Time and press "Calculate" to solve for the others.
* “Total Reaction Time” describes how long it takes for the total volume (Section 5) to pass through the IKA Flow. This is used for collection purposes.

Working Pressure (kPa)
Residence Time (min)
Flow Rate (ml/min)
Total Reaction Time* (min)
